Rotorua Landscape Photography
A geothermal wonderland, Rotorua has been a world-wide tourist attraction for well over a century.  The region is a New Zealand Landscape Photographers dream with 18 lakes, redwood forests, night sky photography locations, picturesque jetties and more.  The jewel in the photography crown has to be Lake Tarawera with an almost eerie atmosphere, particularly under a star studded night sky or sunset serenity over rustic lake jetties.

Some Detail about Rotorua Landscape Photography

Night Sky Photography at Lake Tarawera is a must if you are into this form of photography and are in this region on a calm, clear moonless night.  The lake is only a 15 minute drive from central Rotorua and offers landscape photography opportunities during both night and daytime.  During sunrise or sunset Lake Tarawera is a magical place to be when calm conditions exist - the lake turns to glass and stunning light can be captured from one of the numerous jetties that protrude into the lake.  These jetties are easily accessible from either The Landing or Rangiruru Bay.
In Rotorua early morning light through the Redwood Forest is sumptuous and many jetties exist around Lake Rotorua upon which to base beautiful sunrise and sunset photos.
And if you want a longer drive then access Tarawera Falls via Kawerau - these falls are huge and impressive with water cascading from high up a cliff face into a pristine stream.  Great landscape photography opportunities can be found here, as they can in the other direction from Rotorua to the Whirinaki Forest where a gorgeous native forest and beautiful river canyon can be found.
Rotorua is a popular tourist destination and it's easy to understand why.  I am hopeful that the images in this section will encourage you to also spend time here and enjoy the magnificent New Zealand landscape photography opportunities that exist in this region.
