Some Detail about Lake Tekapo & Mackenzie Landscape Photography
The Mackenzie Basin provides some of the best night sky photography locations in New Zealand.
This is the home of New Zealand's internationally recognised dark sky reserve where astro photographers gravitate to capture images of the Milky Way and other celestial bodies. The light pollution is minimal here making the night sky photography spectacular.
The Milky Way rising above the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tekapo has become one of New Zealand's most iconic astro photography shots.
Day time photography is also a hit in this region with a rich diversity of landscape photography locations such as the iconic Church of the Good Shepherd on the shores of Lake Tekapo at sunset, lake reflection opportunities in abundance (Lake Pukaki, Lake Tekapo, Lake Ruataniwha, Wairepo Arm, Lake Alexandrina, Kellands Pond and Lake Ohau), and lake views with snow-capped mountain backdrops which are perfect when lupins abound in late spring. And autumn colours are a treat to behold when the Mackenzie Basin provides a swath of golden leaved colour in numerous locations.
Then to top it off - in the depths of winter hoar frost can occur, and if you are lucky enough to be in the region when this happens you will be treated to a New Zealand winter wonderland providing unbelievable landscape photography opportunities.
It is my hope that the images in the section will entice you to visit the Lake Tekapo and Mackenzie Country region - if you do I am sure you will come away with a smile on your face!
