Canterbury Landscape Photography
Canterbury is a region with Christchurch as it's major urban hub on the east coast, backed by the Canterbury Plains and the Southern Alps to the west - a region where an English styled Cathedral City sits within a stones throw of magnificent mountain foothills, lakes, and towering Southern Alp peaks. With the volcanic doublet that is Banks Peninsula located on the southern doorstep of Christchurch; the volcanic landscapes, rolling plains, lakes and mountains make for a magical New Zealand landscape photography mix

Some Detail about Canterbury Landscape Photography
One of New Zealand's best kept secrets is a secret no more - the Hakatere Conservation Park (Ashburton Lakes) a two hour drive from Christchurch - the sunrise reflections here are sensational in Lake Clearwater, Lake Camp and Lake Heron. The Park is a tussock covered wonderland of magnificent mountains, mountain fed rivers, beech forests, and lakes bordered by two beautiful rivers in the Rangitata and Rakaia. And further east are the Lord of the Rings filmset locations at Mount Sunday and Erewhon Station. Further south a trip through the Peel Forest and on to Mesopotamia Station rewards with more outstanding Southern Alp landscape photography opportunities. And if you're wanting an outstanding view just a few steps from the car then a drive up to Mount Hutt Ski Field is a must, where you will be rewarded with a view over the Canterbury Plains back to the east coast.
Other locations of note include - Arthurs Pass for a range of mountain and river landscapes plus Castle Hill with the amazing rock structures, Devils Punchbowl Falls in the middle of the Pass, the New Brighton Pier (stunning at sunrise), and the panoramic vistas that the Port Hills and Banks Peninsula provide. All in one day the Canterbury region can provide mountain, river, beach and distant vista landscape photography opportunities capped off, on returning to the city, with a relaxing refreshment while taking in the wonderful vibe of Christchurch central and it's magnificent Town Hall Theatres, Avon River and urban chic.
